Location

Wonderfully situated for easily reaching all areas of the capital’s bustling centre, this Amsterdam apartment can be found in the Nieuwmarkt district, renowned for its animated atmosphere and pivotal square, which features one of the city’s oldest buildings. De Waag or The Weigh House dates back to the 15th century and has been utilised for a variety of functions over the years, currently housing a delightful restaurant. The accompanying plaza hosts a charming daily market and is lined by numerous cafes, ice cream parlours and coffeeshops, each brimming with customers throughout the seasons.

The accommodation allows access to two totally opposing neighbourhoods, the vibrant Red Light District and the tranquil Plantage Quarter. The latter boasts Amsterdam’s quaint Artis Zoo and picturesque Hortus Botanical Gardens, and also contains several cultural institutions worthy of exploration, including Rembrandt’s House, the Resistance Museum and the striking Portuguese Synagogue. Constructed in the 1600s, this remarkable building resides opposite the Waterlooplein, a historic setting that attracts large crowds on a daily basis due to its popular flea market, highly recommended for unearthing that inimitable souvenir.

This apartment was in an excellent quiet but vibrant location. It was close to the Metro which gave you quick access to the Central Train Station which is the hub of the city and a pick up point for many of the tours available. It was also within easy walking distance to all the other main attractions and the Dam. The apartment itself was very comfortable with everything supplied if you wanted to do self catering as we did. Please note that there are two fairly steep sets of stairs to access this apartment then another flight to access the main bedroom and bathroom.
