Located west of Jordaan just above the urban oasis of Rembrandtpark, this up-and-coming neighborhood has a lot to offer. In addition to its authenticity—often in short supply closer to the city center—Amsterdam-West is one of the city’s greenest districts, offering a wide variety of public parks for your enjoyment.
Greet your new neighborhood with a stroll along the canal, taking you past tiny Erasmuspark and then either Gerbrandypark or the Centrale Markt, depending on the direction you choose. Just south of your apartment is the vast expanse of Rembrandtpark, one of the city’s premiere parks. Here you’ll find kilometers of winding paths, shady meadows, bridges and ponds—as well as a popular petting zoo to entertain your inner child. Not far beyond Rembrandtpark is an even larger recreation area surrounding Sloterplas Lake. Perfect for strolling, relaxing, photography or even sailing, Sloterplas is a unique destination and should not be missed.
While you won’t be disappointed with the range of dining establishments in your own neighborhood—high in quality and low in price—no trip to Amsterdam is complete without exploring the dense, frenetic city center. You can easily reach Dam Square (and return home) by hopping on tram number 14 on nearby Bos en Lommerweg Way.
Good value apartment in local areaMartin - Date: 21-03-2017
We stayed for 5 nights as 2 couples in this delightful apartment. The location could not be more perfect, away from the noise of the city yet less than a 5 minute walk to the metro which will take you to the centre. Kitchen facilities were more than apt for us cooking breakfasts each morning and would also be great for cooking evening meals. The supply of coffee, tea and sugar was a nice touch. For those concerned about the sofa bed, you need not worry as this was very comfortable. The lounge is seperate from the kitchen (which has it's own door to the garden) and so can be treated as a private bedroom. The bathroom is small although this was never an issue for us. The garden is beautiful and well maintained with the advantage of a BBQ. The area is nice and quiet. Janeth had a wealth of local knowledge and provided us with maps, information about public transport and recommended places to visit. Highly recommend this place!Nathan - Date: 22-07-2015
