Congress Centre Apartment C3 can be found located just a little south of Amsterdam’s old city centre in what is known as the Ijselbuurt district alongside the River Amstel. Amstel station can be reached via the Berlagebrug Bridge which sits adjacent to the building. From the station you can hop on a tram, bus or metro to Central Station in no time at all. If you prefer to make the journey on foot it will take you around 25 minutes. The route is extremely beautiful and interesting since you will pass by many important landmarks including the famous Skinny Bridge (known locally as the Magere Brug) along the way. It featured famously in the 1971 classic James Bond Film Diamonds are Forever.
Eventually you will reach the exciting Waterlooplein, home to the city’s quirkiest flea market where you can pick up all kinds of wonderful souvenirs of your visit to the city. Don’t be afraid to dive in and sift through the mountains of vintage clothes and bric-a-brac in search of buried treasure. Be prepared to have to haggle with the often grumpy stall holders to get a good price.
The Artis Zoo is also worth exploring and is just an 8 minute walk away from the apartment. It is home to a large collection of unusual creatures including all the favourites such as giraffes, tigers and monkeys. Whilst this is one of the oldest zoos in Europe it is worth noting that the animal enclosures are considered to be state of the art and designed with the animals’ comfort as a priority. Don’t miss the chance to walk amongst thousands of butterflies in the insect house. If you stand very still they are happy to even land on you and eat fruit from the palm of your hand.
